Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Khalaf Khalafov, the special representative of the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan on special assignments, held a meeting in Tehran on Monday.
During the meeting, Araqchi emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries, stressing that Iran is determined to broaden and deepen comprehensive cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan and to remove any existing obstacles to this process.
Pointing to the strategic significance of peace and stability in the South Caucasus for Iran and the wider region, Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s principled position on the need to respect the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all countries, prevent any geopolitical changes, and resolve disputes through diplomacy.
He also expressed hope that the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan would help consolidate peace and security in the region.
For his part, Khalafov described his meetings and discussions with Iranian officials as positive and constructive.
Referring to the successful visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Baku, he underlined his country’s strong commitment to enhancing and deepening cooperation with Iran in various areas.
Khalafov also highlighted the convening of the Joint Economic Commission and the Political Consultations Committee, along with the completion of several joint projects in transportation, electricity, and communication links, as key priorities in the agenda of bilateral relations.
