Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani, made the remarks on Thursday in response to allegations by US envoy Michael Waltz.
Iravani said Iran’s foreign policy is grounded in the UN Charter and guided by principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference, and good neighborliness.
He stated that it is the unlawful US military presence and destabilizing actions that have fueled conflict and instability in West Asia.
The ambassador said the “false narrative of Iranian proxies” was created to deflect attention from the true source of instability — the United States and its unconditional support for Israeli regime.
Iravani lashed out at Washington for repeatedly obstructing the Security Council’s mandate, saying it has made the US complicit in Israel’s crimes and responsible for their continuation.
He said the Israeli regime poses a serious threat to regional and international peace.
Iravani described Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza as an “unprecedented war of extermination” that has killed more than 68,000 Palestinians, with thousands still missing.
He condemned Israeli bombardments that have destroyed Gaza’s infrastructure, including hospitals and schools, calling the situation “a landscape of devastation.”
“These atrocities constitute flagrant violations of international humanitarian law,” Iravani said, citing the use of starvation as a weapon and the unlawful blockade of Gaza.
He referred to a recent International Court of Justice advisory opinion that condemned Israel for obstructing aid and attacking UN agencies, which resulted in the deaths of UN personnel.
Iravani said Israel’s criminal actions extend beyond Gaza, pointing to air strikes in Syria, escalations in Lebanon, and the continued occupation of the Golan Heights.
He added that Israeli aggression had reached Iranian territory, causing civilian casualties.
The ambassador urged the UN Security Council to take decisive action, criticizing its inaction as a form of complicity.
“Despite severe violations, this Council remains silent and paralyzed,” he said, pointing out that the United States often obstructs collective measures against Israel.
Iravani reiterated Iran’s support for efforts to end the Gaza war, secure a permanent ceasefire, and expand humanitarian access, while restoring Palestinian rights.
He called for accountability for war crimes committed during the conflict, saying true justice requires prosecuting those responsible.
Iravani reaffirmed Iran’s position that a lasting solution lies in recognizing Palestinian rights, including statehood with Al-Quds al-Sharif as its capital.
He rejected the US accusations and emphasized Iran’s commitment to respecting international law and sovereignty.
“Iran has consistently shown its readiness for fair, genuine dialogue,” he said, urging an end to narratives that obscure the true causes of regional instability.
