Israel Deploys AI to Shape Global Narratives amid Declining Support

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – As support among young Americans for the Israeli regime wanes, Tel Aviv has turned to artificial intelligence tools and social media campaigns to manipulate online discourse and promote its narrative on global platforms.

World

The Israeli regime has signed a $6 million contract with a newly formed company, Clock Tower X LLC, to produce media content aimed at Generation Z.

The project targets platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, seeking at least 50 million monthly views.

According to Arabi21, the initiative is part of Israel’s ongoing propaganda campaign—known by its Hebrew term “Hasbara”—designed to reshape perceptions of its regional criminal actions, especially during its two-year-long war on Gaza.

AI Manipulation Strategy

Clock Tower X is set to create websites and content hubs intended to influence text-generation models like GPT.

By flooding the internet with Israel-aligned narratives, the company aims to sway how AI systems interpret and respond to topics involving the regime.

A report by Responsible Statecraft revealed that Clock Tower X plans to use MarketBrew AI, an optimization platform designed to manipulate search engine results, ensuring Israel’s messaging dominates online visibility.

Additionally, pro-Israeli messages will be disseminated through Salem Media Network, a conservative Christian outlet operating radio stations and programs including those hosted by Hugh Hewitt, Larry Elder, and Lara Trump.

Earlier this year, Salem Media announced that Donald Trump Jr. and Lara Trump had become major shareholders.

The network has not commented on whether it received payments from Clock Tower for distributing Israeli propaganda.

The campaign is spearheaded by Brad Parscale, former campaign manager for Donald Trump and a central figure in the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

Parscale now serves as CEO of Clock Tower and head of strategic operations at Salem Media.

Documents filed with the U.S. Department of Justice list the project’s stated purpose as a “national campaign against antisemitism,” though the actual content strategy remains undisclosed.

Government-Backed Operation

The project is overseen by Eran Shayovich, chief of staff to Israel’s foreign minister, who also runs Project 545, an initiative focused on advancing Israeli public diplomacy and global influence operations.

Clock Tower’s messaging specifically targets younger Americans who have distanced themselves from Israel amid growing sympathy for Palestinians.

A Gallup poll in mid-2025 found that only 9% of Americans aged 18–34 supported Israel’s military assault on Gaza, reflecting a sharp decline in U.S. public backing for the regime.

Digital Warfare Doctrine

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described social media as the regime’s “most powerful weapon.”

“The tools of war have changed,” he said. “We no longer fight with swords—today, social networks are the main battlefield.”

Netanyahu has also endorsed a potential TikTok acquisition by pro-Israel investors and expressed hope that Larry Ellison, the Oracle founder and a key financier of the Israeli military, would play a central role in the deal.

AI for Surveillance and Repression

Beyond propaganda, Israel’s use of AI has extended into security and repression.

Palestinian sources report that Israeli authorities detained a young Palestinian solely for his conversations with ChatGPT, holding him without charge for 12 months.

According to Palestinian lawyer Khaled Mahajneh, who represents the detainee, “This is the first case of its kind. The student was denied access to his lawyer and interrogated solely based on private chats with an AI system.”

Mahajneh warned that Israeli security agencies now treat citizens’ interactions with AI as potential crimes, saying: “People are being monitored and arrested merely for digital curiosity.”

Hasbara’s Digital Transformation

“Hasbara,” meaning “explanation” or “justification” in Hebrew, refers to Israel’s state-run propaganda apparatus designed to legitimize its occupation and policies.

It operates through the foreign ministry, the information ministry, the tourism ministry, and the prime minister’s office, with the military spokesperson playing an active role in shaping Israel’s global image.

Hasbara’s primary objectives include justifying government actions during crises, managing international media narratives, constructing a positive “national brand,” and maintaining political and financial support from foreign lobbies.

Its modern operations now center on digital influence—recruiting journalists, producing ready-made propaganda materials, orchestrating massive social media campaigns, and embedding pro-Israeli content across entertainment and academic platforms.

In recent years, Hasbara has entered a new digital phase, targeting younger audiences and leveraging advanced technologies to dominate public perception in the online space.
