Iran Lambasts Western Double Standards on Terrorism after Sudanese Civilian Killings

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi denounced the Western governments for categorizing terrorists as good and bad and adopting “deplorable double-standards” against a backdrop of massacre of civilians in Sudan’s el-Fasher.

“In call with my Sudanese counterpart, H.E. Mohieldin Salem, I conveyed Iran's deep sorrow and concern over the tragic killing of innocent civilians in El Fasher, and expressed Iran's solidarity with Sudan,” Araqchi said in a post on his X account on Saturday night.

“Some divide terrorists into ‘good’ and ‘bad’ categories and support those who, in their own words, carry out the ‘dirty work’ in pursuit of their interests,” he added.

“Such deplorable double-standards, long espoused by Western governments, have no place in 2025. Terrorism and violence against innocent people, in any form and anywhere in the world, must always be condemned,” the Iranian foreign minister stated.

More than 4,500 people have fled Sudan’s North Kordofan state as the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) escalate their violent attacks against civilians there and in neighboring North Darfur’s el-Fasher.

The exodus comes as the RSF commits a wave of atrocities in el-Fasher, including mass killings of more than 1,500 people, summary executions and rapes.

On October 28, as the RSF rampaged through the city, gunmen attacked the Saudi hospital in successive waves of violence, abducting doctors and nurses and killing at least 460 patients and others, according to the World Health Organization.

WHO head of humanitarian operations said that “following the capture of el-Fasher, there was no longer any humanitarian health presence in the city”.

UN human rights office spokesperson Seif Magango shared other accounts on Friday, estimating hundreds of civilians and unarmed fighters may have been executed.
