Pezeshkian: Iran’s Nuclear Program Aimed at Peaceful Progress, Not Weapons

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Building nuclear weapons is by no means on Iran’s agenda, President Masoud Pezeshkian said, emphasizing that the country’s nuclear activities serve peaceful and humanitarian purposes.

During a visit to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) on Sunday, Pezeshkian toured an exhibition showcasing the latest innovative achievements of Iranian nuclear scientists in the fields of health, medical treatment, and radiopharmaceutical production.

In comments at a meeting with senior managers of the nuclear industry, the president said that the work being carried out by Iranian experts in producing radiopharmaceuticals and developing modern therapeutic technologies fulfills an essential national need, which must be pursued “with greater speed and determination.”

Pointing to Iran’s prominent position in radiopharmaceutical production and the importance of these technologies in generating national wealth and competing in global markets, the president stressed that “it is vital for the country to harness modern technologies and engage seriously in international competition.”

He noted that the hostility and assassinations targeting Iranian scientists stem from the major powers’ fear of Iran’s scientific and technological independence. Pezeshkian added that Iran has “repeatedly declared that building a nuclear weapon is not part of our program — and they know this.” Nevertheless, he said, Western powers use this false claim as a pretext to hinder Iran’s progress.

Pezeshkian also criticized the “biased propaganda” that has attempted to portray nuclear activity as synonymous with weapon production. He said the nuclear industry encompasses vast scientific and industrial capacities serving human welfare, while “only a minute and inhumane portion” of it involves weaponry.

He emphasized that Iran’s intention in developing nuclear industry is to “respond to the people’s needs and improve national well-being, not to produce arms.”

The president finally reaffirmed his administration’s full commitment to supporting the country’s peaceful nuclear development, stating that with the efforts of Iranian scientists and proper planning, “Iran can secure a larger share of the global market.”
