WHO: Over 16,500 Gaza Patients Trapped Without Care

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The World Health Organization warned that Gaza’s shattered health sector can no longer cope as the Israeli regime’s blockade and assaults leave more than 16,500 Palestinians in desperate need of life-saving treatment.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that more than 16,500 people in Gaza urgently require medical attention that is impossible to access under the Israeli regime’s siege.

In a post on the US social media platform X, Ghebreyesus said the WHO had managed to evacuate only 19 critically ill patients and 93 companions from Gaza to Italy for treatment.

He expressed gratitude to the Italian government for a show of solidarity with Gaza’s civilians enduring the regime’s blockade.

“We urge more countries to receive patients from Gaza, as over 16,500 people still need urgent medical care that is not available in the Strip,” Ghebreyesus said.

The WHO chief also called for the opening of all evacuation routes—especially those from the West Bank, including East Al-Quds—to allow the safe transfer of wounded and sick Palestinians trapped by the Israeli regime’s ongoing aggression.
