Explosion Rips Through Argentina’s Spegazzini Industrial Park

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A powerful explosion tore through the Spegazzini Industrial Park in Ezeiza, Argentina, shattering windows across nearby neighborhoods and triggering evacuations as officials investigated the cause.

Videos on social media showed flames rising high above the site and a shockwave sweeping through surrounding areas.

Residents in Ezeiza and Cañuelas felt the impact, and some told local media they saw an object fall from the sky moments before the explosion.

Multiple factories inside the complex were affected.

Ezeiza Mayor Gastón Granados said the cause and origin remained unknown.

He said “the flames affected several plants in the industrial park. One of them is a chemical plant, where the warehouses caught fire, and where there are facilities related to agriculture and fertilizers. There is also a plastics plant called Plásticos Lago.”

Granados said the scene was chaotic and that crews were working to secure the area and evacuate people nearby.

He told TimesNowNews, “It’s all very confusing. We’re trying to ensure safety in the area and evacuate anyone who might be nearby. Fire crews are working to combat the intense fire that’s burning in all areas.”

Granados said officials “can neither confirm nor deny that a plane crashed” until the fire is fully controlled.

He confirmed that 15 fire crews responded.

The shockwave damaged homes across nearby neighborhoods.

Granados said, “The windows of my house and the neighborhood were shattered. We are evacuating the families who live nearby.”

The owner of Sinteplast, a factory inside the park, said his plant was not the source of the fire.

He told TN, “The explosion destroyed everything, gates, ceilings, some structures, and fire pipes were blown off. Fire brigades are on the scene. It was a terrible explosion. It didn't reach our factory, but the shockwave shook everything.”

Authorities have reported no confirmed injuries or fatalities.

Emergency teams continue assessing damage.
