Pezeshkian Urges New Austrian Envoy to Counter Anti-Iran Misinformation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on Austria’s new ambassador Friedrich Stift to present an accurate picture of Iran and help push back against anti-Iran narratives while working to expand bilateral cooperation.

After receiving the new Austrian ambassador’s credentials on Tuesday, Pezeshkian urged him to convey a realistic and balanced view of Iran throughout his diplomatic mission.

The president stressed that observing conditions firsthand is essential to countering misleading narratives and Iran-focused propaganda.

Highlighting centuries of respectful and constructive relations between the two nations, the president reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Austria in political, economic, and cultural fields.

He said Iran’s foreign policy is rooted in peaceful engagement and mutually beneficial partnerships, despite efforts by certain actors to disrupt Iran’s international relations through unfounded accusations.

Pezeshkian also reiterated that Iran’s nuclear program is strictly peaceful and directed toward meeting needs in health, industry, agriculture, and technology. The president encouraged the ambassador to witness the country’s commitment to civilian nuclear development during his tenure.

For his part, Stift conveyed greetings from Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and recalled his previous service in Iran during the JCPOA negotiations.

The incoming envoy also expressed regret over the US’ unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, noting its damaging consequences.

Stift also condemned the June military actions targeting Iran and emphasized Austria’s long-standing support for diplomacy and dialogue as the proper path to resolving disputes.

He also voiced Vienna’s readiness to facilitate discussions that promote regional stability and broader international cooperation.
