In a statement released on Monday, the IRGC condemned the Zionist regime’s “overt and terrorist crime” of targeting the Hezbollah commander in southern Beirut.
The statement said such cowardly criminal act --carried out under the so-called ceasefire, which has been repeatedly violated by the Israeli regime-- is not a sign of power but a clear testament to the weakness and helplessness of an enemy that has reached an impasse in the face of the will of the region’s nations and the Resistance Front.
The IRGC also expressed regret over the silence and inaction of the international and human-rights bodies regarding the genocide and barbaric actions of the Zionist regime and the support it receives from the warmongering and terror-nurturing rulers of the White House.
Without doubt, the right of the Resistance Axis and Lebanon’s Hezbollah to avenge the blood of the valiant warriors of Islam is preserved, and at the appointed time, a crushing response awaits the terrorist aggressor, the IRGC stated.
On Sunday afternoon, an Israeli airstrike targeted the fourth and fifth stories of a residential civilian building on al-Areed street in Haret Hreik in the southern suburbs of Beirut. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, five people were martyred and 28 were wounded in the strike.
In an official statement, Hezbollah confirmed the martyrdom of senior military commander Haitham Ali al-Tabatabai in the strike.
The late commander was recognized as one of the founding leaders of Hezbollah’s military structure and played a pivotal role in its early formation and subsequent growth.
