In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran strongly condemned the offensive and unjustified action by the Australian government in labeling the IRGC.
The Islamic Republic of Iran considers this action illegal, unjustifiable, and a violation of international legal norms and rules regarding respect for the national sovereignty of states, the statement said.
It also expressed disgust at the compliance of certain Australian policymakers with the malicious policies of the genocidal Israeli regime in spreading lies against Iran, underscoring the international responsibility of the Australian government for such wrongful act.
“This irresponsible action is a continuation of the egregious error committed by the Australian government based on entirely baseless accusations fabricated by the security institutions of the Zionist regime, making the long-standing Iran-Australia diplomatic relationship a bargaining chip for paying tribute to the Zionist occupying regime,” the Foreign Ministry said, adding, “This is despite the fact that relevant Australian authorities, including the New South Wales Police, explicitly acknowledged on October 25, 2025, the fabricated nature of the accusation regarding Iran’s involvement in actions against Jewish targets, stating clearly that there is no evidence whatsoever indicating Iranian involvement in the alleged anti-Jewish activities in Australia.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes that the political move by the Australian government is a dangerous and criminal precedent engineered under the influence of the Zionist regime and designed to divert public attention from the genocide in Gaza. Therefore, it amounts to complicity by those who initiated this measure with the criminals who are being pursued by the International Criminal Court,” the statement said.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also recalled the esteemed, empowering, and honorable status of the IRGC as part of the official Armed Forces of Iran, saying the IRGC has played an unparalleled role in defending Iran’s sovereignty and national security against foreign aggression and combating terrorism, including Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group.
The statement finally reaffirmed Iran’s determination to take all necessary measures to defend the status and dignity of its Armed Forces against any form of hostile labeling.
It came after the Australian government listed the IRGC as a state sponsor of terrorism on November 27, accusing the IRGC of orchestrating attacks against Australia's Jewish Community - on the Lewis' Continental Kitchen in Sydney in October 2024 and the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne in December 2024.
