Asked about Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi’s message to his Lebanese counterpart and media stories about Lebanon’s decision not to accept an invitation, Esmaeil Baqaei announced at a press conference on Sunday that the entire discussion about Iranian interference in Lebanon is a misleading narrative.
Iran has no involvement in Lebanon’s domestic affairs, the spokesman underlined.
Iran’s consistent concern for peace and security in the region should not be misinterpreted as interference, the spokesman stated, describing it instead as Iran’s sense of responsibility.
Baqaei emphasized that decision-making on Lebanon’s issues must proceed through Lebanese-Lebanese dialogue and among the components of the Arab country.
“We are prepared for dialogue with Lebanese officials. We enjoy long-standing relations,” he added.
Baqaei also hailed Hezbollah as a “deeply-rooted and influential” component of Lebanese society, noting that the resistance group makes its own decisions regarding its actions.
He stressed that decisions regarding the weapons of the Resistance are made by Hezbollah itself.
