Speaking at a weekly press conference on Sunday, Esmaeil Baqaei reacted to comments by US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack about Washington’s regional policies, as well as remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
He said the statements made by the US envoy clearly pointed to Washington’s interventionism in the region, adding that such admissions not only demonstrate the failure of these policies but also reveal the grave repercussions they have had for regional countries.
Baqaei noted that the killings, instability, and the formation of terrorist groups are the direct outcome of US interventions, something that even American representatives have described as a mistake. The spokesman emphasized that this amounts to a responsibility on the part of the United States.
He added that the US, regrettably, insists on continuing along the same course, noting that Washington is still pursuing interference in the internal affairs of countries.
Baqaei said US policymakers advance their agendas with a condescending view toward the nations of the region and by dictating their demands, while paying no heed to the concerns of regional countries.
