In a statement on Tuesday, Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei referred to the continued killing and genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through relentless bombardments and the obstruction of humanitarian aid deliveries, recalling the responsibility of the international community and the United Nations to adopt urgent and effective measures to halt the crimes and prosecute war criminals and perpetrators of genocide.

He also pointed to a recent resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly concerning the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which underscores the obligation of all states, in accordance with Common Article 1 of the 1949 Geneva Conventions, to ensure respect for international humanitarian law.

In this context, Baqaei strongly condemned the repeated and flagrant violations of humanitarian law, as well as the commission of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide by the Israeli regime, emphasizing the need to put an end to the Zionist regime’s impunity.

The Iranian spokesperson described the US and other political and military backers of the Israeli regime as accomplices and partners in the genocide of Palestinians and other crimes committed by the regime in the occupied Palestinian territories as well as in Lebanon and Syria.

He noted that despite the declaration of a purported ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, the Israeli regime, with comprehensive US support and amid the indifference of ceasefire guarantors in Gaza and Lebanon, continues to carry out brutal crimes in the occupied territories and Lebanon.

Baqaei further said that the Israeli regime’s continued attacks on Lebanon, the assassination of Lebanese citizens, and the destruction of the country’s infrastructure and vital facilities clearly demonstrate the Zionist regime’s aggressive nature and its inherent hostility toward the security and development of regional countries.

He finally called for serious action by the regional states and the international community to confront the persistent threat posed by the racist Zionist regime to regional and global peace and stability.
