The remarks were made by Esmaeil Baqaei during his weekly press conference on Monday, in response to a question by Tasnim News Agency about the torture and illegal detention of Farah Abu Ayyash --the Iranian news agency’s Palestinian correspondent in the West Bank-- by the Zionist regime.
Unfortunately the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, particularly over the past two years, have turned into places where members of the media have been slaughtered, the spokesman deplored, noting that thousands have been deliberately martyred.
Baqaei said the Zionist regime’s objective behind these actions is clear and aimed at killing the truth in the eyes of public opinion, although he stressed that Israel has not succeeded in doing so.
He added that leveling various accusations against journalists is nothing unusual, stating that Iran, in line with its legal positions regarding freedom of expression and respect for journalists’ rights, has raised such cases through different channels.
The bodies such as the UN Human Rights Council are among the forums where Iran’s representative has addressed these issues, Baqaei noted.
Farah Abu Ayyash, a correspondent for Tasnim News Agency, has been held in detention in the prisons of the Zionist regime for months.
She has been interrogated and detained several times by the Israeli army, but this time she is experiencing her longest period of detention, solely on the baseless charge of publishing so-called inciting content. As a result, she has been under arrest since August 6, 2025, and has been subjected to torture and mistreatment in Israeli prisons.
