In a letter addressed to his counterparts around the world, Araqchi referred to remarks made by the US president on December 29, 2025, stressing that threats of the use of force against Iran constitute a clear breach of the UN Charter, which strictly prohibits any threat or use of force against the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of states.
Recalling the joint military aggression carried out by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran in June 2025, the foreign minister emphasized that the recent threats reflect Washington’s manifest bad faith and its intention to continue an unlawful and aggressive course of action, the consequences and responsibility of which will rest squarely with the US.
Araqchi also pointed to the US president’s official admission of Washington’s direct role in the June 2025 attacks against Iranian civilians, critical infrastructure, and Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, noting that such actions amount to gross violations of international law and entail individual criminal responsibility for the relevant US officials.
In another part of the letter, the Iranian foreign minister said that the threat issued by the US president against a UN member state, in support of the Israeli regime, is a clear example of double standards and a serious blow to the non-proliferation regime. He underlined that unconditional US support for the Israeli regime, as the sole possessor of nuclear weapons in West Asia, has severely endangered regional and international security.
Warning against the dangerous consequences of silence in the face of such threats and unlawful acts, Araqchi stressed that fostering a climate of impunity has emboldened the US and the Israeli regime to persist in their aggressive behavior, posing a direct threat to global peace and security.
In conclusion, Araqchi reaffirmed the inherent and inalienable right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to legitimate self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, stressing that Iran will not hesitate to deliver a decisive and regret-inducing response to any act of aggression.
