Tehran Keen to Expand Ties with Ankara: Iranian FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tehran is keen to enhance relations with Turkey.

Speaking in a meeting with Turkish Minister of Development Cevdet Yilmaz, Zarif stressed that Tehran will spare no efforts to boost ties with Turkey.

He added that enhanced mutual relations is to the benefit of the two countries as well as the region.

Referring to the bilateral cooperation within the framework of regional organizations, including the Developing Eight (D8) and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the top Iranian diplomat added that Iran also seeks to develop multilateral cooperation within the framework of these organizations.

Yilmaz, for his part, called for expansion of relations between Tehran and Ankara in all areas, particularly in economic and trade fields.

He arrived in Tehran on Tuesday heading a 100-member delegation of Turkish tradesmen and investors to attend the 24th meeting the commission.

Iran-Turkey relations have been improving in recent months and the two countries have announced that they are determined to increase the value of bilateral trade exchange to 30 billion dollars by 2015.

In January this year Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Iran on an official visit to hold talks with senior Iranian authorities on Tehran-Ankara ties, trade relations and regional issues.

In comments during his visit to Tehran, Erdogan announced that he expects 2014 to mark a rebirth of bilateral relations between Iran and Turkey.
