US Crackdown on Pro-Palestine Protesters Deeply Repugnant: Iran’s FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian foreign minister abhorred the US police’s violent clampdown on the university students and professors attending demonstrations in support of Palestine, saying it lays bare Washington’s double standards on freedom of expression.

In a post on his X account on Thursday, Hossein Amirabdollahian said the American police and security forces’ violent crackdown on university students and professors protesting against the Israeli regime’s genocide and war crimes is deeply worrying and abhorred by the world’s public opinion.

“Such a crackdown is in parallel with the continuation of Washington’s full-scale support and backing for the Israeli regime and clearly reveals the US government’s double-standard policy and contradictory manner towards freedom of expression,” the top Iranian diplomat said.

He noted that the global wave of aversion to the Zionist regime and its sponsors has become indisputable after the massacre of tens of thousands of Palestinian women and children and specifically after the uncovering of a mass grave at Gaza’s Nasser hospital with bodies of patients and health personnel slaughtered in the Israeli attacks.

“The White House must stop supporting the Israeli regime’s war crimes immediately and be held accountable,” Amirabdollahian added.

The US police have arrested scores in many American universities in recent days as pro-Palestinian student protests spread throughout the US.

At least 34,305 Palestinians have been killed and 77,293 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
