Iranian MPs Condemn Britain's Recent Anti-Iran Move

TEHRAN (Tasnim) — Iranian legislators, in a statement, condemned Britain’s recent move to renew sanctions against a number of the country’s individuals and officials.

The British Treasury has recently renewed sanctions against 15 current and former Iranian officials under the pretext of violating human rights, prohibiting the British financial institutes from all types of transactions with them. So far Britain has put a total number of 86 Iranians on its sanctions list.

In reply, the Iranian lawmakers condemned the move, and said, “The British government, which has a history of colonial antagonism towards Iran and whose uncalled-for interference in our country’s internal affairs has been clear to all, in another move in recent days, imposed sanctions on some current and former officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including two MPs."

“Although the move (sanctions) will not affect our country’s internal affairs, it signifies that the members of the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) are not committed to their claims in Geneva and shows that they will never stop hostility towards the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said the statement, which was signed by 200 Iranian lawmakers on Sunday.

Such measures have been repeatedly taken from the Group 5+1 members, particularly the US and Britain, the lawmakers said, expressing the hope that the latest anti-Iran sanctions would serve to increase the vigilance of Iranian diplomats and nuclear negotiating team about plots against the country.

The statement came after delegates representing Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3) wrapped up the latest round of their nuclear talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna on April 9.

The two sides are slated to convene the next meeting on May 13, again in Vienna, to start drafting the text of a final, long-awaited deal on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.
