Turkish Envoy Sees Iran, Turkey as "Two Major Players"

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkey's ambassador to Iran underlined the key role of Tehran and Ankara in the regional and international arenas.

“Turkey and Iran are two major players not only in the Middle East but also beyond this region,” Umit Yardim said in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency, adding that the combined power of Iran and Turkey is much more than that of each one separately.

The envoy called for the expansion of the two countries' bilateral relations in all areas, and underlined that the two sides' ties should set an example for other regional countries.

Yardim further admitted that the two neighbors have differences of opinion but at the same time described it as "natural".

The Turkish diplomat further referred to the current conditions in the Middle East and the Muslim world and regretted the existence of wars and bloodshed in the region.

He said if the situation continues to be like that, the region and the Muslim world will face much greater problems in the future.

Yardim stressed that Iran and Turkey are the two main powers that can put an end to the current situation in the region.
