Envoy Reassures Iran of China’s Support in N. Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – China’s incoming ambassador to Tehran pledged his country’s renewed support for Iran in the course of nuclear talks with world powers, affirming that the Islamic Republic is entitled to enjoy peaceful nuclear energy under the internationally accepted standards.

“We have been, and are, opposed to the unilateral sanctions and dictating (them) to the countries outside the NPT (the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) , and I ensure that we will back Iran’s stance in the upcoming negotiations with the (Group) 5+1,” Pang Sen said in a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani here in Tehran on Monday.

The ambassador underlined that Beijing has always supported Tehran’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations.

Sen also noted that Iran and China share views on the regional and international developments, and expressed his country’s preparedness to promote cooperation with Iran.

President Rouhani, for his part, hailed the “valuable cooperation” between Iran and China in the area of peaceful nuclear technology.

He further called on the Asian giant to step up efforts to help secure a final, comprehensive deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) over Tehran’s nuclear program.

China is one of the six nations engaged in nuclear negotiations with Iran.

Tehran and the world powers have held several rounds of talks so far with the aim of resolving the decade-long standoff on the Islamic Republic's nuclear case.

The fifth round of such talks was held in the Austrian capital of Vienna on June 16-20.

The negotiating parties will gather again in the Austrian capital on July 2 for a fresh round of talks.
