Iran Urges Collective Action against Israel

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s foreign ministry spokeswoman said condemnation of Israeli crimes by the international and regional organizations is not sufficient and collective action is needed to end the atrocities against Palestinians.

During her weekly press conference on Wednesday, Marziyeh Afkham said the Zionist regime must be brought to justice for violating the international law.

“We urge the United Nations to fulfil its responsibilities. In line with its Islamic and revolutionary principles, the Islamic Republic of Iran has used all its capacities to support Palestinians in Gaza...Foreign Minister Zarif has had several phone conversations with his counterparts from other countries. The minister talked to Palestinian resistance leaders Ramadan Abdullah and Khaled Mashaal and voiced Iran’s support for Palestinians’ resistance,” Afkham added.

She also called on Egypt to reopen Rafah border crossing to ensure the safe passage of humanitarian aid convoys to the besieged enclave.

The spokeswoman also pointed to the International Quds Day due to be held on Friday, calling it an “immortal legacy” of the late Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran. She also urged all freedom-seeking nations across the world to support the people of Palestine in the face of the Israeli aggression.

On July 8, Israel launched air strikes on the Gaza Strip. After 10 days of bombardment of the enclave from the air and sea, the Israeli forces started a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.

Around 650 Palestinians have been killed and more than 4,000 have been wounded in the 16-day Israeli onslaught.
