Beijing’s Ties with Iranian City of Qom Set to Expand: Chinese Envoy
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chinese Ambassador to Iran said his country is intent on developing relations with the central Iranian city of Qom.
In a meeting with the mayor of Qom, Pang Sen said Beijing’s ties with the Iranian city are at the highest level and hoped the relations will further develop in the near future.
Pang Sen also said Chinese companies are making all-out efforts to finish the projects they are currently implementing in Qom and elsewhere across Iran.
“We seek broader ties between Iran and China for the benefit of the two countries’ people,” the Chinese envoy stated, adding that the economies of Iran and China are complementary.
His visit to Qom comes as an exhibition on investment, agriculture and industrial capacities of Chinese province of Gansu got underway in the central Iranian city.
The Islamic Republic is currently China's third largest supplier of crude, providing Beijing with roughly 12 percent of its total annual oil consumption.
Trade between the two states includes power generation, mining, and transportation equipment along with arms and consumer goods such as electronics, auto parts, and toys.
Iran–China trade value reached $45 billion in 2011 and the figure stood at $40 billion in 2013.
