Zarif Participates in Turkey’s Presidential Swearing In Ceremony

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s foreign minister participated in the swearing in ceremony of Turkey’s president-elect Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan has taken the oath of office as Turkey's first popularly elected president, a position that will keep him in the nation's driving seat for at least another five years.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif headed to Turkey's capital Ankara together with a diplomatic delegation to take part in the ceremony.

Erdogan, who served three terms as prime minister, has vowed to give more power to the previously ceremonial post of presidency.

The outgoing Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who has been elected leader of Turkey’s ruling AK Party, is set to be prime minister.

Under the constitution, Erdogan must cut his ties to the AK Party once he becomes president.

The Iranian delegation will then pay a visit to Moscow during which Zarif is scheduled to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
