Typhoon Might Postpone Asian Games Events

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Some outdoor events at the 2014 Asian Games may be postponed as a powerful typhoon is approaching South Korea, organizers said Tuesday.

Typhoon Fung-Wong, packing winds of up to 14 meters per second, is expected to bring up to 19 millimeters of rain Wednesday to this western port city where the Asiad is held, according to local weather officials, Yonhap reported.

Some 9,500 athletes from 45 countries are competing at the Games, the world's second-biggest multi-sport event after the summer Olympics, with 439 gold medals in 36 sports up for grabs.

Iran has participated in the games with 276 athletes in 22 sports.
