Former Envoy: UNSC Resolutions Not to Resolve Palestine's Problems

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Middle-East analyst said the resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council fall short of what is required to settle the problem of Palestine since none of them has ever come into force under pressure from Israel and its staunch ally, the US.

“The United Nations Security Council’s resolutions do not resolve problems of Palestine. Since the foundation of the fake Israeli regime in 1948, 170 resolutions have been passed on Palestine, but not a single one has been enforced so far,” Ghazanfar Roknabadi, who is also former Iranian enovy to Lebanon, told the Tasnim News Agency on Friday.

His comments came after Palestinian proposed a draft resolution to the UNSC on Wednesday that calls for an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories by the end of 2017.

Nine votes are needed by the 15-member Security Council to adopt a resolution, which would then force the US, Israel's closest ally, to decide whether to veto it.

Elsewhere in his comments, Roknabadi, lashed out at Washington for wielding its veto power whenever it has come to the rights of Palestinians.

“As long as the implementation of the (UN) Security Council’s resolutions are not guaranteed, they will have no bearing on the restoration of the rights of Palestinian people,” he added.
