Senior Politician Calls Iraq "A Pillar of Islamic Awakening Movement"

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim described the Arab country as a pillar of the Islamic Awakening movement swept through the region.

Addressing the international conference on the “Role of the Islamic World on the Global Power Structure” here in Tehran on Tuesday, al-Hakim said Iraq is the one of the pillars of the Islamic Awakening movement.

The two-day conference in Tehran is held under the auspices of Iran’s Supreme National Defense University, the Islamic Awakening Assembly secretariat and the Strategic Research Center of Iran's Expediency Council.

A number of expert meetings are also planned to be held on the sidelines of the international conference.

Dozens of leading figures and influential personalities in the Muslim world have taken part in the gathering.

Elsewhere in his address, Al-Hakim referred to the potentials of Islamic societies, and called on the Islamic nations to utilize those potentials.

He also said Muslims should move forward vigorously so as to prevent a turning back of the Islamic Awakening movement.

Over the past few years, Iran has hosted several international conferences on the Islamic Awakening including “Islamic Awakening and Youth,” “Women and the Islamic Awakening” and “Muslim University Professors and Islamic Awakening”.

The Islamic Awakening movement, which started in 2011 in Tunisia, has swept through the Middle East and North Africa including Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Bahrain and Yemen.
