Iran Reiterates Call for Countering Extremism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif warned against the dire consequences of extremist moves for the world nations, and called for concerted efforts to tackle the menace.

In a Sunday meeting with Bosnia-Herzegovina’s new Ambassador to Iran Edib Bukvic, Foreign Minister Zarif once again cautioned against the serious damages the “wave of extremism” has inflicted on the security and stability of different regions in the contemporary era.

The Iranian minister underscored the necessity for close cooperation between the whole countries to tackle the menace of the “ominous phenomenon”.

He also voiced the Islamic Republic’s willingness to contribute to development, stability and security in Bosnia-Herzegovina, adding that the two countries can capitalize on their membership in the international organizations, such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), in a bid to strengthen their ties.

Bukvic, for his part, touched on the history of amicable relations between Tehran and Sarajevo, stressing that the Bosnian government and people are keen to expand relations with Iran.

Iranian officials have on various occasions emphasized the need for the all-out efforts to uproot terrorism and extremism.

Earlier in January, Zarif said in a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart that terrorism and extremism pose a serious threat to the entire regional states, saying increased efforts by the whole governments are necessary to deal with the major challenge.

“We seriously believe that terrorism, extremism and sectarianism are challenges for the whole governments in the region,” he stated at the time.
