Top Commander: Iranian Army to Play Active Role in Soft War

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Army will not only put efforts into upgrading its defensive equipment and weaponry, but also keeps on playing an active role in the field of soft warfare, Iranian Army commander stated on Wednesday.

In a Wednesday message released on the occassion of the National Army Day (April 18), Major General Ataollah Salehi reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguard the country against foreign threats.

The high-ranking officer underlined in the message that the Army forces maintain high morale and have the required military capabilities to fulfill their duties, noting that both the quality and quantity of the country’s defensive systems will be upgraded.

Pointing to the Army’s cultural activities besides its military preparedness, Major General Salehi underscored that, like the past, his forces will have “widespread and influential presence in the sphere of soft war” in the current Iranian year (started on March 21).

Iranian officials have in recent years stepped up efforts to counter the wave of cultural onslaught by the western countries. To that end, Iran has launched a base to fight against soft war by hostile powers.

The base is tasked with policy making in the state and military affairs to counter the soft war tactics of the enemies of the Islamic Republic in a concerted manner.

Soft war is a term used by Iranian officials to refer to the cultural invasion and soft intelligence tactics used by foreign countries deemed hostile toward Iran.

The base, which has been staffed by officials from the armed forces as well as from other state organizations, seeks to coordinate issues concerning soft power and soft war in the Armed Forces and their relations with other state bodies.
