TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anifah bin Haji Aman is planned to pay a visit to Tehran and hold a number of meetings with senior Iranian officials.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour announced on Wednesday that Anifah Aman is likely to arrive in Tehran on Friday night.

The Malaysian minister is expected to meet his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday and attend a joint press conference afterwards, Press TV reported.

Rahimpour said Anifah Aman has also asked for a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani. Describing Aman’s trip as important, the Iranian official said the visit can pave the way for the further enhancement of bilateral ties between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier in a meeting on April 14, Malaysia’s new ambassador to Tehran, Raja Nour Shirvan Zeinol-Abedin, and Iran's Foreign Minister Zarif discussed various issues, including the level of ties between the two Muslim nations.

“The both countries should move towards constructive interaction and dialog with each other, particularly because we are located in a region where extremism is spreading,” Zarif told the Malaysian envoy during the meeting.

The minister had also warned against the dire consequences of extremism and terrorism in the region, stressing that those perils should not be misinterpreted as sectarianism.
