Iran Reaffirms Support for Yemen’s Stability

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday rejected the recent allegations raised by Yemen’s foreign minister that Tehran is interfering in the Arab country’s internal affairs, and stressed that the Islamic Republic favors unity and stability in Yemen.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been a friend of Yemen and supports unity and stability in that country,” Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said on Saturday.

“Consultation and participation of the entire groups and parties in the political process (in Yemen) and the wise Yemeni people’s vigilance could restore stability, security and prosperity in that country,” she reiterated.

Afkham made the comments in response to Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Abdallah al-Qirbi’s accusations that Iran sends arms to militants in his country.

"We have evidence that some Iranian parties negatively interfere in Yemen's affairs by sending weapons," he told the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper.

Qirbi, however, did not clarify the nature of the evidence.
