Afghan Clash Leaves 7 Militants Dead

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Seven Taliban militants were killed as they came in contact with police in the southern Helmand province on Tuesday, said a statement of Interior Ministry released Wednesday.

"A group of Taliban militants were busy in planting mines on a road in Sangin district Tuesday afternoon to target security personnel when police patrol identified them and opened fire killing seven on the spot," the statement said.

Police had also discovered and defused five mines from the road, it said, adding there were no casualties on the side of the security personnel.

Taliban militants have yet to make comment, Xinhua reported.
