Envoy: Kazakhstan Keen to Expand Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Kazakhstan's ambassador to Tehran said his country regards the expansion of ties with Iran as a strategic principle.

“We seek the expansion of cooperation (with Iran) in different infrastructural spheres, railroad, transportation, and transit,” Baghdad Amiriyev said during his Sunday’s meeting with Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi in Tehran.

The Kazakh envoy referred to his country’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s visit to Iran to take part in President Hassan Rouhani’s inauguration ceremony as a sign of Kazakhstan’s determination to enhance all-out relations with Iran.

The Iranian minister, for his part, pointed to the cultural ties between Tehran and Almaty, and said considering the current capacities and also Kazakhstan’s historic and cultural background, Tehran is ready to strengthen cooperation with Almaty.

Kazakhstan has special interests in Iranian investments in mechanical engineering, infrastructure, transport, and telecommunications.

Iran imports grain, oil products and metals from Kazakhstan. Iran is a partner in joint oil and gas projects including construction of a pipeline connecting Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran (Persian Gulf) which will give Astana access to the Asian markets.
