Iraqi Commander: 320 ISIL Terrorists Killed North of Tikrit
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The commander of the Anti-Terrorism Division of the Iraqi Army, Major-General Fadhil Barwari, announced that 320 members of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group have been killed in clashes with the security forces north of Tikrit.
During a military operation in Al-Ishaqi district in the Salahaddin Governorate, the Anti-Terrorism Division with the cooperation of volunteer forces managed to inflict heavy losses on the ISIL terrorists and kill more than 320 members of the group, Barwari was quoted by the Iraqi website Almasalah on Wednesday.
He also said that the military operation was started on Saturday and the area has now been cleared of the terrorist groups.
Barwari went to say that the special forces of the Anti-Terrorism Division have been conducting a door-to-door search to eliminate the groups affiliated with the ISIL.
In early June, following its large-scale offensives in Iraq, ISIL seized control of most parts of Mosul, the second most populous city in Iraq, its surrounding Nineveh province. ISIL militants have been in control of Fallujah city since December.
The terrorists’ attacks have reportedly forced more than half a million people in and around Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Province, to flee their homes. The Takfiri (extremist) militants are said to have entered Iraq from neighboring Syria and Saudi Arabia to destabilize the Arab country.
