Iraq, Syria Proxy Wars Aimed at Securing Israel: Iranian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian official said the Salafi and Takfiri terrorists have been assigned by outsiders to wage proxy wars in Iraq and Syria in order to provide a margin of security for Israel.

Enemies of Islam are trying to create rift and foment sectarian and religious conflicts among the Muslim nations, Ramezan Sharif, head of the Intifada (Uprising) and Quds Center at Iran’s Coordination Council of Islamic Propagation said on Monday.

He lashed out at the Takfiri militants for committing “the most heinous crimes” in Syria over the past four years, saying such brutal acts have alienated those terrorists from humanity.

Sharif also blamed the US and Israel for the terrorist crimes in Iraq and Syria.

“Terrorism as well as homicide is the default in the world view and policies of the Zionist regime, which pursues its own interests in the region by resorting to violence, terrorism, bloodshed and insecurity,”

He further called on all Muslims to vent their hatred towards “Islam’s number one enemy”, namely the Zionist regime of Israel, by participating in mass rallies on this year’s Quds Day, to be held on July 25.

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators around the globe express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to Zionism as well as Israel's control of al-Aqsa mosque.

The day was first suggested by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in August 1979.

Imam Khomeini declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day, and called on Muslims and freedom-loving people all over the world to mark the occasion with massive rallies.
