Continued Gaza Siege Threat to Regional Security: Iranian Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker said continuation of cruel siege of the Gaza Strip will lead to a humanitarian catastrophe as it threatens regional peace and security.

Ali Larijani’s warning came in separate messages to the President of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) Abdelwahad Radi as well as the Union’s Secretary General Martin Chungong.

Larijani –who is also President of the Parliamentary Union of Islamic Countries (PUIC)- strongly condemned atrocities committed by the Zionist regime.

The Iranian speaker mentioned vast violations of international principles and laws by the aggressive Zionists and slammed the concerned organizations for their muted response to the Israeli atrocities.

Larijani further called on the two IPU officials to take any necessary measures to stop the deadly attacks on Gaza, to lift the siege on the impoverised enclave, and send humanitarian assistance to Gaza residents.

The Iranian official had earlier called for an emergency meeting of the PUIC to discuss the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli warplanes have been pounding targets in Gaza in Tel Aviv’s new round of offensive that began on July 8.

Nearly 230 people have been killed and more than 1,970 others injured by the new wave of Israeli aggression so far.

The death toll has already exceeded that of the 2012 offensive against the coastal enclave.
