US Targeting Syria’s Civilians, Infrastructures: Iranian Deputy FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister said Syria’s civilian population and infrastructure are the target of US military attacks on the country.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, said the American airstrikes are purportedly against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) but they are obviously targeting Syria’s civilians and its infrastructure.

He also warned that Washington unilaterally made the decision to launch military attacks on Syria and violate the country’s sovereignty but "definitely, the end of the story will not be determined by the US."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian reiterated the Islamic Republic’s strong support for Syria in its fight against terrorism.

Earlier this week, Washington and a coalition of Arab allies launched a series of airstrikes against the militants in Syria.

The attacks, however, have so far been ineffective in stopping the militants. The raids have prompted the terrorist to increase the number of their men and weapons.

The airstrikes are also said to have caused civilian casualties and damages to infrastructures in Syria.
