Iranian MPs Condemn Israeli Desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian lawmakers, in a statement on Sunday, decried the Israeli regime’s recent sacrilegious moves at al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem, al-Quds and called on international bodies to stand up against Tel Aviv’s crimes.

“We, as the Iranian lawmakers, expect all international institutions, particularly the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), to condemn the heinous act (of the Zionist regime of Israel) and take preventive measures to confront the crimes and end the inhumane moves through taking fateful decisions,” the statement read.

The Zionist regime of Israel is taking insolent moves and committing unforgivable sacrilege at the al-Aqsa Mosque, the Muslims’ first Qibla, and has outraged Muslims as well as freedom and justice-seeking people, the Iranian MPs noted.

The parliamentarians also pointed to the Zionist regime’s numerous plots for Judaization of al-Quds and displacement of thousands of Palestinians called on the Muslim states to wake up and take action to stop the Israeli regime’s atrocities.

The statement came against the backdrop of simmering tensions in al-Quds after Israeli authorities prevented Palestinian worshippers from entering the al-Aqsa Mosque about 10 days ago and pressed ahead with plans to construct new settler units in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Israel reopened Al-Aqsa mosque compound for the Muslim Friday prayers, but restricted entry for Muslim men under the age of 50.

Al-Quds has been witnessing months of violence with al-Aqsa mosque compound standing as a rallying point for Palestinian resistance to the Israeli attempts to take control of the holy site.
