Yemen’s Revolutionaries Condemn UNSC Resolution

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Popular Committees backed by Houthi movement in Yemen have condemned a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution targeting them, amid ongoing military aggression against the country by Saudi Arabia.

Yemen’s Supreme Revolutionary Committee called on Yemenis to stage mass rallies in protest to the UNSC resolution, which was passed on Tuesday and imposed an arms embargo against the revolutionaries.

It also imposed asset freezes and travel bans against Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi movement.

The resolution also called for an immediate ceasefire, access to humanitarian aid to the victims of the Saudi airstrikes and ensuring the safety of civilians, Press TV reported.

The resolution, which had been drawn up by Jordan and the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, was adopted in the 15-member Security Council with 14 yes votes, and an abstention by Russia. It stopped short of condemning Saudi Arabia's aggression against Yemen that enjoys no UN mandate.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s UN Ambassador Abdallah al-Moualimi claimed that the UNSC resolution is an “endorsement” of the Saudi air strikes, threatening the Yemeni nation that “they will continue to face more of the same” violence if Riyadh’s demands are not met.

The Saudi official’s comments come as media reports say Riyadh has deployed its forces to the Yemeni border preparing for a possible ground offensive.

Saudi Arabia started its deadly attacks on Yemen on March 26 in a bid to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
