Pakistani Minister in Iran to Attend Meeting on Afghan Refugees

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Pakistani Minister of States and Frontier Regions Abdul Quadir Baloch arrived in Iran on Sunday to participate in a quartet meeting on Afghan refugees.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Baloch will take part in the fourth session of the Strategic Quartet Committee for Afghan Refugees due to be held in Tehran on Monday and Tuesday.

The Pakistani minster is also scheduled to meet with Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli on the sidelines of the quartet meeting and exchange views on bilateral relations.

Representatives of Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees will take part in the quartet meeting, which will be hosted by the Iranian interior ministry.

Back in May 2014, the UN resident coordinator in Iran had appreciated the measures adopted by the Islamic Republic in hosting foreign nationals, saying that Iran is the world's second biggest country accepting foreign refugees.

Garry Lewis admired Iran for hosting a large population of refugees over the past three decades, the bulk of which have flocked into the country from neighboring Afghanistan.

Preceded by Pakistan, Iran is the second country in the world that accepts the highest number of refugees, Lewis announced.
