Iran Back on Track in FIVB World League

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian national volleyball team defeated Olympic champion Russia in straight sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-21) in a second successive FIVB World League match on Sunday.

Mojtaba Mirzajanpour and Shahram Mahmoudi got 17 points each for Iran. Maxim Mikhaylov was the top scorer for the Russia with 16 points.

The Iranian team had defeated Russia 3-1 in its first match on Saturday in Pool B at the Saint Petersburg Volleyball Centre, Kazan, Russia.

Iran secured its seventh World League point. Russia, who faces Poland next, has just a single point.

USA remained top of Pool B with 17 points, followed by Poland with 11 points.

Iran will host the USA on June 19 and 21 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
