Iran Defeats India in FIBA Asia Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran beat India 88-66 in its second match in the FIBA Asia Championship in Changsha, China, on Thursday.

The Iranian team, who had defeated Japan 86-48 in its first match, will play Malaysia on Friday, while India play Japan.

Mohammad Hassanzadeh led Iran with 18 points.

For India, Amjyot Singh was the star performer as he bagged 26 points, which was also the highest individual score for either side and the second highest individual score so far in the Championship.

The 2015 FIBA Asia Championship for Men is the 28th continental basketball championship in Asia.  The competition is being held in Changsha from September 23 to October 3.

The winner of the tournament qualifies for the basketball tournament on the 2016 Summer Olympics, while the next three best teams will participate at the 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men, as stated by FIBA and the IOC in qualification quota.
