Tehran, Moscow Ink Railway Deal

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Russia have signed a railway deal worth $1.2 billion euros in a bid to electrify a train line, a report said.

According to a report by Russia’s Tass news agency on Tuesday, Russian Railways and the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI) have signed a railway agreement which envisages linking north-central Iran to the northeastern border with Turkmenistan through an electrified train line.

The Garmsar-Sari-Gorgan-Inche Burun route will be financed by the state export credit of the Russian government to Iran, the Russian company said.

The signing came after President Vladimir Putin visited Tehran on Monday to attend the third Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
