JCPOA Joint Commission Reconvenes in Vienna

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A joint commission tasked with monitoring the implementation of a nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers brought together diplomats in Vienna, Austria, on Thursday for an expert-level round of meetings.

Hamid Baeedinejad, the director general for political and international affairs at Iran’s foreign ministry, heads the Iranian delegation in the meeting.

This round of talks is aimed at negotiating a draft resolution that the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) will propose to pave the way for the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors to close a case on the so-called possible military dimensions (PMD) of Tehran’s nuclear program.

The next meeting of the joint commission will be held at the level of deputy foreign ministers in the Austrian capital on Monday.

The commission has been formed to oversee the process of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and the sextet.

Back on July 14, known as the Finalization Day, Iran and the six countries finalized the text of the JCPOA, which will terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran after taking effect.

On the same day, Iran and the UN nuclear agency also signed a Road-map that commits the IAEA to finishing its investigations about Iran’s nuclear activities and submit a report to the Board of Governors by December 15.

The IAEA has been given the role of verifying Iran’s commitments under the JCPOA.
