TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari underlined that Tehran has a principled policy to support groups fighting in the anti-Israeli Resistance Front, including the Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas.

Speaking at his weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday, Jaberi Ansari rejected media reports claiming that Hamas has not received any support from Tehran since 2009, saying that supporting the group is among the country’s firm policies.

“Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution (in 1979), the Islamic Republic of Iran has declared that supporting the Palestinian nation and the Palestinian Resistance Movement is among its fixed policies and has continuously taken some measures on this path,” he noted.

He reiterated that up to now, providing support for the legitimate campaign of the Palestinian nation against Israeli occupation has been Tehran’s fixed policy.

London-based newspaper Asharq al-Awsat, which is funded by the Saudi royal family, claimed on January 31 that Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook, a senior political member of Hamas, had criticized Iran regarding their proclamations of supporting Hamas, especially those on support being presented post 2009.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency a day after the report, Khalil Abu Leila, a senior Hamas leader, stressed that Tehran is still assisting the resistance, for which Hamas is grateful.

Abu Leila said those who publish such reports are the enemies of the Palestinian nation and resistance.

There is no doubt that reports about the words and sentences attributed to Abu Marzook are not correct, he said, stressing that Iran has always been a supporter of the resistance movement.

“We appreciate Iran for the support it has provided for the resistance,” the Palestinian leader said.
