British Firms Eager to Rekindle Ties with Iran: Ex-Ambassador

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A former UK ambassador to Russia said British companies are excited about resuming economic ties with Iran now that anti-Tehran sanctions are gone.

"There are opportunities there (Iran) for British companies and we are very keen to take advantage of them," Tony Brenton told Sputnik on Monday.

Brenton, who served as Britain's ambassador to Russia from 2004 to 2008, described the implementation of a nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), between Iran and six world powers a "huge success" for the international community, including Russia.

The JCPOA, which had been finalized back in July 2015, came into force on January 16 and terminated all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.
