Tehran, Moscow in Unison on Syria: Iranian General

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Russia have fully coordinated policies toward Syria, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri stated.

In an interview with Al Alam Arabic-language news channel on Sunday, Jazayeri dismissed speculations about any political differences between Iran and Russia on developments in Syria.

“There is, fortunately, full coordination between the two great states of Iran and Russia over Syria, both on political and military issues,” he said.

“We support Russian presence in Syria, and regard it as a strong point for the Syrian government and nation’s future victories,” the general added.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including Daesh (ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

Meanwhile, Russia’s aerial support for the Syrian forces has given fresh impetus to the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.

Since late September 2015, Russia has been carrying out bombings against the Daesh terrorists in Syria, after Russia’s parliament granted President Putin authorization to deploy the country’s air force abroad.

In the past five years, more than 260,000 people have died in Syria -overwhelmingly civilians- and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Around 8 million others have been displaced internally.
