Iranian Weightlifter Mohammadpour Misses Olympic Games

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian weightlifter Saeid Mohammadpour will miss this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro due to an injury.

The 105kg weightlifter dislocated his elbow while attempting to lift 190kg at an event in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in October.

Mohammadpour, who missed 2015 IWF World Weightlifting Championships, will not available for the 2016 Olympic Games as well.

“Saeid needs surgery and without a doubt will miss the Olympics. He will soon undergo surgery,” President of Iran Weightlifting Federation Ali Moradi said.

Mohammadpour won a bronze medal in the men's 94kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships in Paris, France in 2011.
