Iran’s Ex-FM Meets with Iraqi PM in Baghdad

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Iranian foreign minister and the current head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations Kamal Kharrazi discussed latest regional developments with Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in the Arab country’s capital.

During the meeting held on Monday in Iraq’s presidential palace, the two sides conferred on how to coordinate the regional efforts to support Iraq in the fight against terrorism.

According to a statement by the Iraqi prime minister’s office, Tehran-Baghdad bilateral ties, ways to improve the ties, and the resolution of regional crises were also discussed by the two officials.

Before visiting Iraq, Kharrazi also made trips to Syria and Lebanon, where he held meetings with senior Arab officials including Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Since June 10, 2014, Iraq has witnessed a fresh wave of violence after militants from Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group took control of large swathes of the war-stricken country.

Syria has also been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including the Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.
