Home of Obama's Air Force One Locked Down after Bomb Threat

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The main gate at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland just outside Washington, D.C., was placed on lockdown Thursday evening after a woman at the visitors center claimed to have a bomb.

The incident was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday. The base said in a statement posted to Facebook around 6:40 pm that a woman had walked into the Visitor Control Center claiming to have a bomb strapped to her chest.

The woman was taken into custody, and an explosive disposal team found no explosive device on the scene, according to the base.

"Although the situation has been diffused, emergency personnel continue to secure the area and all base residents/personnel should avoid the area," the statement said, the Hill reported.

Officials indicated in social media posts that missions out of the base had not been impacted and flights were not being redirected.

US president Obama and other senior administration officials routinely fly in and out of the base.
