Former Iran Coach Ghotbi Appointed Buriram United Coach

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Buriram United football club appointed Iranian Afshin Ghotbi as its new head coach.

The Thai champion had parted company with Alexandre Gama on Sunday.

Buriram United’s decision to sack Alexandre Gama came after a string of disappointing performances that saw the team trail by as much as 8 points behind league leader Muangthong United.

The Thunder Castle has wasted no time in naming its new man as the former Shimizu S-Pulse and Iran national team coach gets his first taste of working in the Premier League of Thailand (PLT).

Ghotbi was strongly rumored to be heading to Suphanburi in time for the beginning of this year's PLT campaign.

As head coach, Ghotbi led Persepolis to the Iranian Pro League championship in 2008 and had four steady but unspectacular years in the J-League with Shimizu S-Pulse.
